Yoshi Jackson
Greatly influenced by the word-based artworks of Ed Ruscha, Barbara Kruger, and Lawrence Weiner, Jackson began creating daily 'message' pieces in the late 1990s, when he was working as a copy writer at a large advertising agency. The text that overlays his colorful photographic images comes from diverse sources - personal diary entries, English language study materials, art criticism, quotes from his wife, song lyrics and literary classics - just to name a few. Occasionally political, often non-sequitar, and almost always original, Jackson seeks to both provoke and entertain viewers with his works. In 2008, Jackson began his 'Pop Ups' - interactive messages that mock conventional pop-up advertising.
