Xu Ping
Profile
Trained as microbe biologist, Ping became interested in the fine arts when she visited a calligraphy exhibition in Taipei and noticed how similar the characters were to the micro-organisms she was viewing under the microscope. Much of her recent work cross-references the worlds of science and art. Her recent video installation, Dissecting the Rainbow, won the Golden Jaguar at the Sao Paulo Quartennial.

"Spending hours each day looking through a microscope at amoeba, my attention began to turn to that which I had been trained to ignore - the idiosyncrasies of each slide - a mysterious world of cracks, dust, hair and air bubbles."
