Bradford Heuss
Profile
For over 10 years, Heuss has concentrated on painting ultra-representational portraits of his brothers. Based on photographs taken during their brief and infrequent meetings (they all live on different continents), Heuss investigates how adult siblings maintain a juvenile dynamic when interacting with each other. The paintings often deal with action - playing sports, cutting down a Christmas tree, cooking and 'rough housing'.Artist Statement
"As we enter adulthood and take on new responsibilities, we redesign our identities around the expectations of others. 'Professionalism' and 'maturity' become a key for success. However, when I am with my brothers, the game is up. I don't need to be mature, professional or cool. Painting these situations allows me to stay in touch with not only my brothers, but also myself."Works
