Pierre Hodgkine
Profile
Hodgkine's art practice involves exhibiting photographs in a non-traditional manner. Interested in the way photographs are utilized in areas such as packaging, industrial processing and daily household products, he attempts to bring fine art images 'outside the frame'.Many of his images become wallpaper or simple objects. These are then placed in both urban environments and gallery settings. Floor mats, tissue boxes, cash register keys, milk cartons and other objects have become host to Hodgkin's photographs. If a viewer is not specifically looking for them, the images will most likely not even be noticed.
Having the audience search for the works in a playful interaction is a key component of the pieces themselves.
For his November 2011 exhibition at the Tokiori Gallery in Nagoya, Hodgkine strategically placed recent textural photos taken at Yellowstone National Park in 7 places around the gallery, including over electrical outlets, on stools and over a ceramic vase.
